A $193 million construction permit issued during the week of July 1–7, 2026, has set the next phase of Miami Freedom Park in motion, clearing the way for a sweeping retail, dining, hotel, and entertainment complex adjacent to Miami International Airport.

The permit, tied to the address 1822 NW 37th Avenue, ranked as the single largest construction issuance across all of South Florida for the reporting week — a signal of both the project's scale and the pace at which its developers intend to move.

When fully realized, the Freedom Park development will bring more than one million square feet of retail, dining, entertainment, and office space to the site, along with 750 hotel rooms and a new City of Miami administration building. A 58-acre public park woven into the project is intended to serve surrounding neighborhoods that have long lacked substantial green space.

One major anchor is already in place. Inter Miami CF's Nu Stadium, which sits on the same footprint, has been completed, providing an immediate draw for foot traffic and setting a physical anchor around which the commercial buildout can take shape.

The location puts the development at a crossroads of regional movement — within close range of Miami International Airport and the highway corridors that feed it. Proponents have argued that proximity to the airport, combined with the stadium and the planned hotel inventory, positions Freedom Park to capture both tourism spending and business travel that currently disperses across the metro area.

The $193 million permit covers new construction rather than renovation or interior work, suggesting vertical progress on the commercial and hospitality components is now imminent. The city's own administrative offices, also planned for the site, would consolidate municipal operations currently scattered across multiple locations.

The Freedom Park project has been years in the making, surviving legal challenges, public referendums, and the complex choreography of developing city-owned land alongside a professional sports franchise. The issuance of this permit represents a tangible turning point from planning to physical construction on its commercial core.
